Fracture Match

The matching of broken or torn objects may be similar to putting together the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. The edges and surface markings are used to align the items in question. This demonstrates that two or more pieces of an object were at one time a complete unit.

Evidence in these types of cases has included broken knives, damaged car parts, torn duct tape, torn clothing, broken glass, and broken wood trim.

Fracture Match examinations are performed using microscopy.
