CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION

  • October 2-6, 2023

Prerequisite: Basic Law Enforcement Training, Basic Crime Scene Investigation (not required, but helpful).

Course Description: The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control hosts this training at the Academy.  This course consists of classroom lecture and practical application training. Numerous forensic disciplines will be discussed, to include latent fingerprint identification and recovery, body fluid detection, DNA evidence, blood stain patterns, firearms/trace/toolmark evidence, casting impressions, and other related disciplines.  The course also includes instruction in crime scene management, crime scene diagramming, legal issues, crime scene photography, and camera functionality.

Course Instructors:  Classes are instructed by Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Laboratory personnel and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control.

Who Should Attend: Criminal investigators, detectives, or officers charged with the duty of processing crime scenes.

Required Materials: Significant portions of the training will include elements of photography. Students should arrive with at minimum:

  • A DSLR (or mirrorless) camera with standard lens
  • Tripod
  • Flashlight
  • Weather appropriate clothing for outdoor classes

*A limited number of loaner cameras and equipment will be available.

Other helpful, but not required camera equipment aincludes:

  • An external flash and sync cord/cable
  • Macro lens (50mm)
  • Extra batteries
  • A USB drive or computer for electronic course material handouts.

Tuition/Registration Fees: Registration fees are due 7 days prior to the start of the class.  If fees are not paid in full, the student will not be allowed to attend the course.  Forty-eight (48) hours notice of cancellation is required for full tuition refund.  Exceptions to the refund policy will be made at the discretion of the Director of Training.

Cost:

  • $540 - tuition, meals, and lodging
  • $340 - tuition and meals

Continuing Education Hours:

  • 19 hours of Technical Studies
  • 8 hours of Skill Development
  • 4 hours of Legal Studies
