INTERNAL AFFAIRS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT

Prerequisite: None

Course Description: This course is designed for newly assigned internal affairs investigators and/or command level staff who want a better understanding of the disciplinary process and how internal affairs investigations should be conducted.

Course content includes:

Complaint handling and processing

Knowledge of investigative techniques

Internal Affairs rules and procedures

Legal aspects of discipline

Conducting formal investigations and interviews

Report writing and documentation

Social media policy and guidelines

Disciplinary outcomes and appeals

Officer involved shooting and other critical incident investigations

Sexual harassment and hostile work environment investigations

Early identification systems

This course will work through the process of conducting objective internal affairs investigations from start to finish, as well as information on the latest legal issues surrounding disciplinary procedures and administrative investigations.

Who Should Attend: Attendees should be newly assigned internal affairs investigators and/or command level staff.

Tuition/Registration Fees: Registration fees are due 7 days prior to the start of the class.  If fees are not paid in full, the student will not be allowed to attend the course.  Forty-eight (48) hours notice of cancellation is required for full tuition refund.  Exceptions to the refund policy will be made at the discretion of the Director of Training.

Cost:

  • $540 - tuition, meals, and lodging
  • $340 - tuition and meals
