Retirement: The MoDOT & Patrol Employees’ Retirement System (MPERS) guarantees a lifetime retirement benefit upon meeting certain age and service requirements. Employees hired in a benefit-eligible position for the first time on or after January 1, 2011 must contribute four percent of their gross salary to help fund their future MPERS retirement benefit. Employees that have creditable service with the State of Missouri prior to January 1, 2011 are not required to contribute to their future retirement benefit.

Retirement benefits are calculated by a formula that includes the employee's salary, years of service, and a multiplier. Employees may be able to transfer service credit earned under the Missouri State Employees’ Retirement System (MOSERS) to MPERS. Qualifying employees may purchase military and prior city police department service to increase creditable state service.
